Editing Your Own Novel

In the intro to my short story collection, Opal Wine, I admitted that a man who edits his own material has a fool for an editor, but many of us simply cannot afford to purchase an editor's time or lack friends talented in editing (1).

Author Jean Marie Bauhaus has some interesting pointers for those of us needing to self-edit on her blog:

  1. Editing the Heck Out of Your Indie Novel – Part One: The Extra Mile
  2. Editing the Heck Out of Your Indie Novel – Part Two: Getting to 3rd Draft
  3. Editing the Heck Out of Your Indie Novel – Part Three: 3rd Draft to Print

As always, caveat emptor and surf responsibly.

(1) Fortunately, I have three friends who examine almost everything I write and though I cannot pay them, they get lots of mileage out of their hard work including acknowledgement everywhere I go. Nothing like free and enthusiastic advertising as well as other perks I am able to provide.
