Seven Questions From the Horse - Margaret Daley

1) Tell us about yourself.

I am Margaret Daley and have been selling for thirty years (eighty-three books). For many years I wrote as well as taught high school students with special needs. I finally retired a few years back, and now I'm writing full-time.

I am president of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW), 2600 plus members strong. I love to teach writing and have spoken at national conferences as well as local ones.

2) What are some interesting places you have been?

My favorite was Bora Bora. The water and snorkeling was fantastic. It is paradise with wonderful scenery, people and weather. I've also had some interesting adventures in various other places: got caught in the middle of a protest in London that later turned into a riot (I was thankfully back at my hotel by that time); got lost in Rio de Janeiro across town from my hotel with no one who spoke English around me; and went swimming with sharks.

3) Why did you write Shattered Silence, the second book in The Men of the Texas Rangers Series (October 2012)?

I wrote this book in the series around the issue of bullying in our society--not just bullying at school but also in the work force and relationships. As a teacher I saw firsthand the harm bullying did to students. A lot of the kids I taught were made fun of because they were different. It broke my heart to hear about it. Our society should not tolerate bullying anywhere.

4) Why have you featured the Texas Rangers in your romantic suspense series for Abingdon Press?

The Texas Rangers are an amazing law enforcement organization (part of the state police in Texas). One hundred fifty Rangers cover the whole state. They support the local authorities and handle all types of crimes from murder to robbery. They protect the governor as well as state and federal officials. They also investigate allegations against public officials. They were the perfect group to be in a series with suspense and mystery. I have set my series in different areas of Texas with a different Texas Ranger for each story.

5) What is your favorite type of book to write and why?

My favorite to write and read is romantic suspense. I love suspense and action novels--the fast pace, the puzzle to solve, a story that grabs you from the beginning and never lets you go. My brand is heartwarming to heart pounding, an electrifying read. That's what I want in a book.

6) What advice would you give a new writer?

Write. Find time to write and then sit down and do it. Don't rework the same chapter over and over or you may never finish. Write through the story without bothering to edit a lot along the way. Then once you have actually completed the whole story, go back and start editing.

7) How are you found on the Internet?

I have a blog on my website that features Christian books each week. If you go to my website and click on my book page, you will find links to Amazon and Barnes and Noble to buy the individual books.
