Status Report

  • As of this moment, I have three stories "out in the wild" being considered for publication. Sadly, most markets are now taking months to make a decision. Writing is more of a game of patience than anything else.

(Note: Speak of the devil and he comes to you: I just now received an email from a submission back in June 19th that it has been rejected ;-)

  • Later today, I will be submitting an application to the local library system to be one of 20 local authors allowed to make presentations at their Local Author Weekend (Saturday, October 20th). I should know in a few weeks if my application has been accepted.
  • Years ago, I wrote a novella entitled The Seven Sisters and its attempts at being published is a star-crossed tale all on its own. Written as an exercise as to what the 1984 version of My Little Pony could have looked like if it had been written to tell a story instead of mindlessly selling product, it's final metamorphosis shares very few similarities with its original source material. Sadly, though written years ago, it's resemblance to the new version of the popular My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic cartoon is too comfortably similar to allow me to publish it now. After polishing, it will be most likely be released for free as an eBook to avoid conflict with MLP's copyright owners.
  • The first book of The Adventures of Jill Noir trilogy is about 98% completed. Co-written with Ken Pick, the project is on a short hiatus.
  • I currently have 27 writing projects started and will soon be organizing them into a list in order to decide which ones will be written to completion or "Deep Sixed."
  • There are probably 75 completed works currently available for a home. Again, I know that some of them are unpublishable as I no longer write in the style in which they were written. I need to make a decision as to which ones can be rewritten and which ones need to be permanently retired.
  • I will be speaking at CapClave 2012 this year though I do not yet know which panels I'll be serving on. I will most likely be selling autographed copies of Opal Wine as well as doing a public reading. Might I see one or more of you there?
  • Look for me at local bookstores in south-central Pennsylvania doing book signings later this year.

Sorry to hear about the rejection; good luck with the other two 'kids'.

And never mind that The Seven Sisters seems similar to MLP:FiM; try and sell it! Hey, if the unabashed fanfic Past Sins can be sold as a for-reals book, hardcover and all*, then your story should have a chance.

And good luck with CapClave!

* -- By the way, is that even legal? I know that fanfic-esque works are sold this way in Japan as, what, doujinshi, but I don't know how legal it is here in the US.

In a day, I could change just one detail in the story that would move the story from fanfic into a story of my own creation, but I think I may be guilty of just being overcautious.

The *only* items the story shares with MLP is magical ponies and a baby dragon.
