I have always wondered at the popularity of one of my stories that I wrote some years ago on a dare, one that may have taken me 15 minutes to write, but it always is well received by readers.
My Pretty Pony (in my Opal Wine collection and first published in Ethereal Tales and their "Best Of ..." audio collection, and then in Morpheus Tales Apocalypse Special Issue) was a dare to write a My Little Pony destroys the world story and this well before the advent of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Ethereal Tales sent me an acceptance in three days, it was read by voice actor John Snell (aka stokerbramwell) for their audiobook, and as said, Morpheus Tales reprinted it.
It even received positive mention in this review.
Last night I read it for a writers' group that meets in Camp Hill. The story had them gasping for breath, not from the excitement, but from sheer hilarity.
And then I understood.
I have always been fascinated how writing is such a subjective art and how the reader can pull out perspectives and viewpoints the author never intended or did so subconsciously.
I'm going to have to read more stories to groups just for the simple joy of seeing how the listeners react. I could learn a lot.
